End of an Era

I don't want to be the person who loves "things" but if you know me, you know I love my car.

Does this mean that I am shallow and of simple mind? Maybe, but I will blame it on my first fun car, my yellow beetle. It ruined me and now I really love to drive fast, fun, nice cars.

On Monday, after much angst, research and fear of regret, I signed the papers and bid my fast tiny red friend, the Mini Cooper, farewell.

I mean really, how cute is this car?

I will admit it is stupid but I did hold back tears when I said goodbye at the dealership. More than the car itself, that honestly has caused much emotional and financial heartache, it was saying goodbye to a younger and more carefree version of myself that was hard.

With my new ride, no one is going to stop me to ask if I love my car or tell my how cute it is with its racing stripes and two tone leather seats. The camaraderie of fellow miniature car owners and getting the most amazing parking spots, is a thing of the past.

Now I will slip on my Birkenstocks and drive to REI or Whole Foods to get my picnic supplies for the Indigo Girls Concert. There my non-distinct car can nestle in among its twins and will inevitably be lost in the sea of Subarus that fill every parking lot in Salt Lake.

The thing is, I am really happy with my new car. My bones aren't jarred with every bump, I don't have to do sit-ups to get out of it, my passengers don't need to sit on my lap or crawl over me to get in. And the real kicker...bumper to bumper warranty.

I guess my car finally caught up with my age.
