It may take me over a year but I do get around to things, like writing in my Blog. It seems that I just don't have that much to say and don't really have news these days so writing about my everyday life just doesn't stimulate me like it should.
I should mention that Grandma Dona had a knee replacement on Friday and the last few days have brought some of the most painful tears and truly funny moments I have had in a while. When I went to see her on Friday afternoon I was not prepared to see her in so much pain. She was yelling from the pain and demanding that we take her leg off the machine that bends and straightens it for her to keep the scar tissue down. At one point she asked if I loved her and if I did why I couldn't help her. I have never stood next to someone I love to profoundly and seen them suffer like this. I know that my mom was in pain when she came out of surgery but she was quiet and resigned, she was not boisterous and angry. Dad didn't seem to be in that much pain, he too was rather quiet about it. Grandma Riggs was often in pain but as she suffered through her last few weeks she was alert certainly not aggressive like Grandma D. At one point I had to leave the room as tears were streaming down my face listening to her yell for me as I stood in the hall trying to hole onto the wall because I felt like I was going to faint.
I had to leave the hospital for a few hours and I made Heather go back with me because I was too afraid to face her alone. WHen Heather and I arrived she was sleeping for the first time since coming out of recovery. SHe woke to talk to us and she was in the sweetest Morphone haze. I say sweet because she wanted so much to be engaged in what was going on around her but could only squeeze out one riduclous comment every few minutes. It was a great insight into her wise old mind. SHe asked if the nice boy in the room (Nych, my favorite nurse) was there to take care of my mom, she tried to explain to us why she was in bed and how much she had gotten done in the last day. When she would get frustrated about her lack of cimmunication skills she would get a small grin and lay her head back and say "I jsut can't tell you how strange this is". It is indeed strange. I love you sweet Grandma Dona.
