Out of my favorite movie and into the driveway

For those of you who were there last night to witness what happened,
you might understand how absolutely amazed I was. Unbelievable.
Last night, a scene from a movie was played out in my driveway. Ok,
not my driveway because we don't have one, but the neighbors driveway
that we borrowed. I would like to point to exhibit "A" at the bottom of
this post.
Yes, my husband bought me a car for my 30th birthday. Who does that? And the bow, do you see the bow?
I
would like to leave it at that but it is important to Elliott that all
who know I got a new car understand the practical nature of this gift.
1. He did give me a car, he gave me a car payment.
2.
His mom has been trying to sell this car and we have been talking about
getting a smaller one that gets better gas mileage so it is benefiting
his two favorite girls.
3. We won't be young forever, it is important that we drive a sporty car while we can.

Whatever!
Elliott is my hero and he got his spoiled rotten wife a car for her
birthday. I think I need to be on an episode of "Dirty Thirty" a new TV
program I am going to produce that airs on MTV right after "My Super
Sweet 16".

I also need to mention the most thoughtful gift I think I have ever received. Heather organized a group-ish
gift of a charm bracelet. I love it. My mom had one and I loved to look
through all her little charms and she would tell me her great
adventures from all over the world and it is a very sweet memory. So I
open the bracelet and love it. Then, all the other key players in my
life each gave me a charm specific to them. Amy gave me a "Katie Bug",
Heather and mom gave me a girl on aVespa and a moon, Timmy gave me a mushroom (bratty) and someone in there gave me a tiny photo frame for a picture of Buddy.

Can I say it again? The 30's are starting out well and I think it is going to be a good few years. I am very blessed.

30, I am ready, take me as I am

I am lying in bed, looking for Adrian on line (where are you?) and enjoying the last few minutes of my 20's. Since I started working at a computer for 8+ hours a day I have lost the desire to spend extracurricular time staring at a screen but tonight I feel lonely and this seemed the best place to look for friends. I have read all of the back episodes of my favorite blogs (Jen and Alison, thanks for the entertainment) and now I have 31 more minutes before I turn 30.
I think I have blogged about my birthday before so it is funny that I find a need to do it again but I have decided not to go back and read the older one until after this is posted, just to see how truly fickle I am. I wrote a really long post on 9/11 and just before I published it I realized I had written one last year that said almost exactly the same thing. I am boring.
My mom would come into my room every year on my birthday and tell me the story of my birth. I remember the year that I asked her not to say "birth", it was gross. She would start by telling me how much she loved being pregnant and the only thing that made giving that up ok was getting such a beautiful little girl. I was born at 4am in Provo at UVRMC and my dad had to catch me as I came out because the doctor told mom to push but didn't think I would come that fast. We were all easy births and easy babies but I was the favorite. The great thing about moms is they make all of you feel like you are the favorite. So, I am a little bit sad as I type this because nobody will ever love you like your mom does and nobody will ever be able to tell me about the way I came into this world the way she could.
I am ready to give up my 20's. It has been a good run but I am honestly not sad to them go. I had all of these bench marks set that I wanted to meet before 30, none of which I have achieved (weigh 135 lbs, be pregnant, graduate from college) and yet I am still going to turn 30 and the world has not ended. I just want to be free of all the standards I imposed on myself every Sunday night for the past 15 years trying to tell myself that since it is the start of a new week I can exercise more, catch up on my homework and reach new intellectual highs. So for all these years I have spent the week being disappointed in myself. I'm tired, ready to let go of a few things. Maybe less vacuuming, less worrying and more acceptance of my life's reality.
I am sitting in a huge bed in a beautiful house with my sweet dog and amazing husband sleeping next to me. I will wake up tomorrow to school, a good job, a loving family and adoring fans (well, maybe not fans). I will still weigh what I weigh, there will only be 24 hours in each day and even if I don't get the dishes out of the sink before I go to school or the counters wiped off before people come over for dinner tomorrow I can still have a good birthday. Happy Freakin Birthday to me!

This is me torturing my buddy in bed. He is floppy and nice and loves me 29 or 30.
