Strawberry (& cream) Days, a moral dilemma

What kind of moral dilemma could you have about Strawberries and Cream, what's not to love? Not much, not much.

I love June because it brings the Strawberry Days Rodeo to Pleasant Grove. I grew up going to rodeos to watch Heather compete (I think I was supposed to be in one once but I am sure I got bucked off my horse or something equally tragic) and she was fancy. If memory serves me correctly, which it often doesn't, we would get pulled out of bed while it was still dark and be put in the bed of the blue Datsun truck in a pile of blankets to ride to the rodeo. Heather is still the best rodeo companion because she knows all the crazy rules that go with each event. Who knew there were so many rules? I though this was a simple man's sport.

I was not a horseman and still have a healthy fear of them, a source of great disappointment to my mom and what I perceive as satisfaction from my dad. I am amazed by their power and intelligence and a rodeo is a great place for that to be showcased. Not to mention the attire that the Rodeo Queens get to show off. Where can a girl get purple Wranglers and a rhinestone belt to match?

I decided this year that I am going to watch the calf and steer roping any more. It breaks my heart a little and I don't feel like it is a fair fight. It is a bit of a moral dilemma for me because it is not as if the ticket sales will suffer because I don't like to watch these little guys be tackled, I am still going to buy a ticket to see the other events. I need to think this one over.

The events that I do love are the Barrel Racing and the Wild Cow Milking. The Barrel Racing looks like so much fun and it showcases athleticism of the horse as well as the relationship between horse and rider. AND you get to scream a lot.

For some reason this girl is racing in a bikini so I had to post this movie. This seems like a really bad idea to me.

If you have never seen Wild Cow Milking, it is time. These cows will "F" you up! and you deserve it. It is hysterical and painful to watch grown men chase a cow, get stepped on, head butted and mowed down. If you are going to go where you don't belong (like under a wild cow) you deserve a little pain in return. Fair is fair.

BUT my very favorite thing about Strawberry Days is the strawberries with cream and sugar poured over them. Deeeeelicious. It doesn't quite taste the same at home without the dust of a rodeo adventure on the rim of your cup.

Define "friends" in one word

My friends are nice. Last week when I posted about my mom I received what I would describe as a cascade of good will. Amy showed up unexpectedly in my office with flowers, which made me cry. I received sweet notes via my blog and numerous people called with nothing to say other than they loved me. When I got home I found the sweetest smelling yellow roses and a sweet note of support waiting for me on my porch that Barbara had left on her way to work.
I am a lucky girl, a very lucky girl. Thanks friends.
